“23-year-old Kerala student is infected with Nipah virus” confirmed Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja on Tuesday.
KK Shailaja added “Two people have symptoms of fever. One has been admitted to the isolation ward, though it is not a serious situation, still, we admitted him due to fever and sore throat.”

Moreover, the Kerala government has put 86 people under the medical observation, who has interacted with patient. As per KK Shailaja, “The Kerala government is ready to take all the necessary steps to tackle the virus. All decisions are being made based on our experience with the previous Nipah outbreak in Kozhikode in May 2018,”

Minister has asked that people should not get panicked as precautionary measures have been taken.
Nipah virus usually spreads from Animal to Animal but it rare case it spreads animal to man, then it spreads from people to people. Last year the Nipah virus has claimed 17 lives in Kerala.

As per the WHO, Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus (it is transmitted from animals to humans) and can also be transmitted through contaminated food or directly between people.

Symptoms of Nipah Virus

Fever, headache, muscle aches, sore throat, vomiting, and dizziness are normal symptoms of infection.


People should avoid endemic area and fruits that are fallen off from the trees. Avoid contact with Bats or pigs and maintain general hygiene.
